We can recommend an intimate, yet hip boutique hotel in Bangkok called La Résidence owned by friends.  It is located on Suriwong Road with easy access to all the major shopping areas and is only minutes away from the Chao Phya River which is the best shortcut to all the famous temples via river taxis.  Patpong Road, the notorious entertainment area which converts into a shopping bazaar from 1700 hours until 0200 is only a few blocks away.  Major shopping centers as well as souvenir shops at the Silom Village are also within walking distance.

The rooms are fully equipped with all the amenities and are charmingly furnished, each with it's own unique theme - none of the usual run-of-the-mill hotel room clutter here and the lobby is a model of minimalist chic.   Accommodations available are singles, doubles and suites. Rates range from Bht 900 and up.  Try and request the rooftop garden suite - 7A, which is another flight of stairs up, but is usually booked out. Here, you can sit amongst the greenery on the balcony and enjoy the city lights.  Best of all, the rates are very reasonable and the service is impeccable. Most of the guests are regulars who could afford 5-star hotels, but wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.

La Résidence represents excellent value for the money.
