Malls and markets

Shopping-thumbFrom Coral Bay Resort, it’s an easy drive to any of the shopping areas on Samui. Chaweng is only a short way up the road where you will find the streets clogged with souvenir stalls that offer an assortment of wares ranging from tawdry to terrific. Many of these open only in the cool of the late afternoons, and there are a number of night markets, including a popular Friday night street market at Fisherman’s Village in Bophut.

Each year new independent shops, glossier and more high end, open up on the main beach roads with jewellery, accessories, bikinis and other holiday gear galore.

Central Festival’s huge new mall in Chaweng offers even more temptation, with department store shops, food centres and high-end boutiques.

Air-conditioned Tesco Lotus, Big C, Makro and HomePro with easy access to franchise food concessions are now commonplace, along with ubiquitous convenience stalls on every corner.
